A double shot from our man in Philadelphia Jake Krolick who scooped out the sweet ‘n’ meaty parts from a recent Heartless Bastards show along with openers The Builders and The Butchers. Krolick has a swell instinct for zeroing in on the unfolding moment, and we’ll be sharing more of his work in the days to come. Further tidbits on the show from Krolick after the videos.
Jake reports: This was a hot show with Crier Peter Wolf and The Builders and The Butchers opening for the Heartless Bastards. Crier Peter Wolf is a must see soon for anyone into a mix of sounds as varied as The Black Keys and M. Ward except Brian Moen’s unreal textures and emotion at the drum set really lends them more to the ears of the Keys’ fans. The Builders and The Butchers had the crowd singing along and shaking a wonderful variety of noisemakers ranging from a kid’s bat filled with beans to many-colored maracas. They finished to a crowd that sung to them as they packed their gear away. This stellar eve for drummers with the Bastards’ super cool double drumming Brandon Hafer and Ray Rude. Erika Wennerstrom sported a shiny pair of pumps and she rocked a sick rig of pedals all evening with those sexy shoes. The versions of “Into The Open” took my breath away (included in the above video) and “The Mountain” just built into one grand jam. They ended with an encore with Crier Peter Wolf’s Peter Pisano joining them on vocals and the double drums of The Builders and The Butchers.
