Big High Summer 2010 Tour Diary #2

The Boutique in Boise, Idaho has secrets. I wonder how many clubs we’ve played that were once brothels. Secret doors, spiral staircases and concrete walls to conceal what was a speakeasy during prohibition are all very fitting with the style of music we are writing now.

Seattle’s Big High continue to update us from their current tour.

The Boutique in Boise, Idaho has secrets. I wonder how many clubs we’ve played that were once brothels. Secret doors, spiral staircases and concrete walls to conceal what was a speakeasy during prohibition are all very fitting with the style of music we are writing now. Christina, their sound engineer, has the room dialed in. The sound onstage and off was perfect, and the audience’s response was overwhelming. Christina even recorded the show and after the set she played it as the house music. For a second, we thought it was our album!

After the show, Barrett [Martin, drummer and alumni of Screaming Trees & Tuatara] jumped in the mini-van and headed to the studio in Joshua Tree to set up his vibes and drum kit. He will meet back up with us in LA. The rest of us enjoyed the hospitality of Cheryl, the bar’s manager. We made many new friends in Boise and are really looking forward to coming back.

Now it is off to Santa Barbara. Two days to travel 14.5 hours. In honor of Ari’s purchase of a 1920’s banjo, we decided to camp in Yosemite National Park and look for a triple rainbow. A banjo, ukulele and three harmonicas mixed with a case of beer and a bottle of whiskey. Good times! (Sandy)
