Comments Off on Political Rhetoric Week: John Lennon

Political Rhetoric Week comes to a close with a song about finding humanity in the midst of politics, stardom and the other things that cloud our clear vision of how to be decent people with one another. Is there a more powerful, succinct condemnation than, “What the hell you trying to do laughing in the face of love?” John Lennon had a way of depantsing those in power and making everyone else sing along as he did. I dedicate this song (and it’s fine cover by one of Lennon’s acoyltes Paul Weller) to all those in positions of authority who crap on those that put them in power. A lack of compassion, good conscience and basic human feeling infuses so many of the decisions made by governments, but at least there’s karma, eh?
