“Hurry in, bell is ringing/ Your past is calling home.”
One of DI’s favorite bands to emerge in the 2000s was Brothers and Sisters, and we’ve been awaiting new music since 2008’s Fortunately. Thankfully, one of the main creative voices in the band, Will Courtney, is striking out with his solo debut, A Century Behind, on April 22nd followed by a U.S. tour. Produced by Ray Richards (Local Natives, Parson Red Heads, Henry Clay People), the album has the feel of solo Tim Bluhm, Cardinals-era Ryan Adams, and the solo work of Jayhawks’ Gary Louris and Mark Olson. Like Courtney’s work in Brothers and Sisters, his solo work is full of plainspoken, haunting wisdom, with the lead-off track offering the refrain, “There’s no answer to questions you haven’t poised.” Check out the video below, and you can sample a couple more cuts here and some demo versions of upcoming tracks here.
