Getting to play with George Porter was the treat of a lifetime. I always thought his playing on the old Meters recordings was pure magic. I just went with him and tried to match everything he was doing rhythmically in the bass drum. The whole band sounded pretty good that night.
Will there be little hotties there and stuff? Yeah, well then count me in. Let’s camp in the bushes. Sweet.
We have always had a good crowd in Chicago and tonight was no different. Thing about Chicago is that it’s sort of loud and boisterous. The people are that way, too. They are in your face, but they mean well. But what I’m trippin’ on is that, the last two times I’ve played in Chicago, somebody has grabbed my butt as I left the stage.
We busted out every party song we had and dissolved into a full-on accordion polka extravaganza. The whole room was a dirty, sweaty mess. It was probably the most rock moment I’ve ever had in ALO.
Eating on the road has lead me to believe there are only three food groups: brown/white, green and grey. The vendors we’re providing a plethora of the brown/white variety. I’ve been having a little too much of those colors this tour. Where’s the kale booth?
Good talent buyers see the bands that they book as partners and strive to create a good working relationship, regardless of the sales situation, in the hope of doing better in the future — not burning bridges.
Everything is working. Everything is right. Everything is music and love. For three hours I am completely alive and totally unafraid and sharing my existence with 800 people that I never knew existed in a way of ultimate generosity and authenticity. Nothing went wrong and everything was perfect.
