Sunday Brunch IX

Open up the windows and let the cool air in. Press play, softly at first and then inching up the volume bit by bit as the music takes you and sets your feet to shuffling. It’s gonna be a beautiful weekend despite all the flotsam and jetsam beating against our hulls. The water is wide but we will cross over. Believe that.

DI 3rd Anniversary Mix

On May 31, 2010, Dirty Impound popped its head up on the internet with the simple goal of being a cool water cooler to gather around and celebrate rock in all its myriad, rowdy, wonderful permutations. We’ve strived to shine a light on under-sung veterans and shining lesser-knowns as well as sharing our affections for established greats. Mostly, we’re gung-ho about excitedly offering up music we love sprinkled with an insight or three. We love rock ‘n’ roll in a possessed, vaguely crazed, life affirming way, and we hope you pick up on some of the charge we feel about the music and musicians we share at the Impound. Thanks for gathering around from time to time. It means a lot to us that you venture outside the mainstream to spend time with us. Now, let’s party. Who brought bath salts?

Join DI on June 15th at San Francisco’s fab Boom Boom Room for our 3rd Anniversary Party [pick up tickets here and RSVP on Facebook here] featuring headliners Seattle’s The Staxx Brothers, a pummeling rock set from one-off trio The Evil Sides, which is comprised of Jeremy Korpas (The Loyal Scam, former Big Light) and Sean Leahy and drummer extraordinaire Daria Johnson of SF’s blazing pop-rockers the Sean Leahy Trio and a DJ set from Righteous Trash. If you’re in the Bay Area that Saturday you’re gonna kick yourself if you miss this shindig.

Classic Rock Orgy VII

Usually the Orgy is, well, orgiastic – too much of a good thing but not so much you’d refuse all that’s spread-legged before you. This installment we decided to go for pointed, effective foreplay. This baker’s dozen will get you under the shirt and over the bra, no problem. Now, let’s turn it up and knock things outta whack so they’re deliciously caddywampus!

Mullet Love II

The Mullet Love series was born out of frustration with the fare on commercial classic rock radio, where one might assume staples like Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Rolling Stones recorded perhaps a dozen cuts and that there’s no modern equivalents with music ready, willing and able to go toe-to-toe with the established pillars of the genre. Poppycock, Dirty Impound cries, and here’s the proof, where we mix a spoonful of the familiar with lesser knowns, deep cuts, and vintage coolness overlooked by what’s left of FM stations. Go toke up in the parking lot on your lunch break and then blast this through the afternoon to get through this working week Monday.

Mullet Love I

Sometimes what you want from life isn’t sophistication. Sometimes you just want somebody to reach down between your legs and ease the seat back. The Mullet Love series is this helping hand, mingling classic rock royalty with bands you’re probably encountering for the first time that might spontaneously give you Tennessee Top Hat. This is a celebration of struttin’, riff rich rock that despite what they tell us is alive and well today. It almost goes without saying, PLAY LOUD!

Sunday Brunch VIII

It’s been a hard week in America. Most of them are but the national psyche took some concussive blows in the past seven days. It’s hard to keep pulling one’s self up from the mat after so much ugliness, violence and disappointment – not to mention all the travails and small travesties of our private lives this past week – but it’s important to keep believing in things larger than ourselves, stronger than a single stretch of days, more enduring than a news cycle or political campaign. We gotta find faith in one another or even something more skyward, and say, like Mott does on this mix, “God ain’t jive.” Dreams and love and other connections and joys – big, tiny and otherwise – remain alive and well despite the black wave that swept through recently. These are songs to keep us company as we claw our way to the light, together despite the fog and fear that makes us seem so distant at times.
